Frankfort, KY – The governor's budget-balancing plan includes an across-the-board, two-point-six percent cut in most state agency funding, the use of federal stimulus dollars, some debt restructuring and enhanced tax collections. He's also recommending suspension of three to five paid holidays for state employees. "They currently receive 11.5 paid holidays each year. We're proposing three days for employees who make less than $50,000 and five days for those who make more than that."

Louisville, KY – Todd County businessman Bill Johnson joins Bunning and retired engineer Roger Thoney as declared candidates in the GOP primary. Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Bowling Green optometrist Rand Paul have both expressed interest in the job, but they say they won't run unless Bunning drops out.

Johnson says he's ready to face them.

Frankfort, KY – Governor Beshear spent almost two hours behind closed doors with House and Senate leaders. Afterwards, Speaker Greg Stumbo told reporters, the governor is ordering an across the board, two-point-nine percent cut, but is sparing basic education funding, higher education and Medicaid. "I don't see anything controversial. I don't see anything necessarily that the General Assembly would take issue with, right off the top of my head. It does require some legislative approval."

Frankfort, Ky – The Kentucky Public Service Commission has accepted a settlement that allows Kentucky-American to increase annual revenue by 10-point-3 million dollars or about 17 percent.

The psc says the increase will raise the typical monthly residential bill by about three dollars and 90 cents.

Kentucky American wanted a 31 percent increase which would have increased monthly bills by about 7 dollars.

Frankfort, KY – On Friday, after lengthy analysis of current and projected state revenue collections, the Consensus Forecasting Group predicted an almost $1 billion revenue shortfall for Kentucky in the next fiscal year. Group chairman Larry Lynch says the panel had three forecast options: optimistic, control or pessimistic. They went with a blend of control and pessimistic.
