Toyota To Shift 1,000 Kentucky Employees To New, Out-Of-State Headquarters

Toyota is planning to consolidate U.S. sales, engineering, and finance operations.

The move that will affect about a thousand employees from its Kentucky engineering and manufacturing unit.

The decision is part of a larger plan to move roughly 4,000 employees to anew North American headquarters to be completed in late 2016 or early 2017.

In a statement Monday, Gov. Steve Beshear expressed disappointment with the decision, adding that the lives of “hundreds of Kentuckians will be disrupted.” Still, the governor pledge to assist the major Kentucky employer with its transition.

In the past 30 years, Toyota has invested close to $6 billion in Kentucky. About 8,200 Toyota jobs will remain in the state after the move.
