Towles Named Starter For Wildcats' Home Opener

UK Athletics

Kentucky head football coach Mark Stoops has officially named junior Patrick Towles as the starting quarterback when the Wildcats take on Louisiana Lafayette in the home opener next month.  Towles beat out freshman Drew Barker for the starting job.

"I think that Patrick's the guy he's gonna play, he's got the reigns, you saw that last year. He'll have the same the same this year. But I have confidence and in he and Drew and I'm excited to see them play,” said UK Coach Mark Stoops after practice Monday.

Towles started every game last season, becoming the first Kentucky quarterback to do that since 2007.

Towles completed 225 of 392 pass attempts (57 percent) for 2,718 yards and 14 touchdowns in his sophomore campaign. He totaled 303 yards on the ground as well for six touchdowns.
