Classes began today in Marshall County, less than seven months after a deadly mass shooting at the high school left two students dead and several others injured. This year, several new safety measures are in place.
Students will have to pass through metal detectors when they arrive to school and middle and high-schoolers can't carry backpacks. Elementary school students will only be allowed to use mesh or clear backpacks. The district is also adding five resource officers. One will be at each middle school, two will be at the high school and one will float between the high school and elementary schools.
