For two years now, Lexington women and their supporters have taken to the streets in solidarity with the National Women’s March – and 2019 will be no different.
"We intend to let it be known that the people of Kentucky are still engaged in resisting the many harmful policies of the current administration agenda," says Anita Franklin, an organizer and scheduled speaker at this year's rally.
Franklin says she hopes the third annual march, in concert with hundreds other planned events spanning the nation, will rekindle the spirit that animated the history-making rallies in 2017 and encourage more women to get active in the political process.
"Our first march two years ago was a record-breaking number. It actually went into the archives over there at UK," she adds. "We know that the 2017 Women's March inspired hundreds of women to run for office and millions more to vote."
The event, sponsored by the Kentucky chapter of the National Organization for Women, is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza – rain or shine.
