Shooting Leads To Congregation Carrying Guns

First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown

Some parishioners will now carry weapons into a historically black Kentucky church after a gunman tried to get in during an afternoon bible study.

Some people who attend The First Baptist Church of Jeffersontown are now bringing bullets along with their bibles to church. Reverend Kevin Nelson has asked any members who have law enforcement of security backgrounds to carry guns. This comes after Gregory Bush, a white man accused of killing two black people at a nearby Kroger, was seen on security footage trying to get into the church during an afternoon bible study before heading to the grocery store.

Reverend Nelson told WDRB that the church started keeping the doors locked after the mass shooting at a black church in Charleston three years ago. Now the church is going a step further by ensuring members can defend themselves.

Gregory Bush is charged with first-degree murder and police are calling the shootings “racially motivated.”
