Remembering 9-11

Karyn Czar/WUKY

Lexington’s finest gathered in Phoenix Park in downtown Lexington this morning to remember those lost on 9-11, especially first responders who ran toward danger to try and save thousands who were running for their lives.

While bagpipes played, flags were flown at half staff and a wreath was placed in front of the memorials to honor our own fallen Lexington police officers and firefighters.

Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers was at the command center 17 years ago. He said it made him realize that nothing could be taken for granted and we have to make sure the next generations don’t forget what happened on 9-11.
