Ragland Won't Receive Free Wheelchair

A non-profit group has decided to take back an offer to donate a wheelchair to a man convicted of killing  a UK football player back in 1994.

"The Darrell Gwynn Foundation"had planned to present a custom wheelchair to Shane Ragland in Bowling Green this weekend, but that offer is now off the table.  Darrell Gwynn says he was not aware of Ragland's criminal history before accepting his application for a donation, and that the foundation has a policy that disqualifies anyone who has been convicted of a felony.

Shane Ragland was convicted in 2002 of the sniper-style slaying of Trent DiGiuro.  The case was overturned but Ragland eventually pled guilty to manslaughter in exchange for time served.

Digiuro’s mother Ann Digiuro posted on her facebook page that she received a personal call of apology from Darrell Gwynn, assuring her that the offer had been rescinded.  Gwynn added that the level of calls and emails about the situation was unprecedented.

Ragland was paralyzed in a 2012 car crash.
