The new filtration building at Kentucky American Water in Lexington has been in the works for more than four years and Wednesday the ribbon was cut and water began flowing to customers.  Kentucky American President Nick Rowe tells us the new facility uses half as many filters but pumps out the same quality of water. “Smaller amount of filters in a more confined space so instead of building a bigger facility we were able to keep the costs down, still 15 million dollars, it’s not cheap, but still we were able to control the costs.  It’s always one of our initiatives to find a way as we build new facilities to contain the costs because ultimately the customers pay for that”

Warren Rogers, President of W Rogers Company, the general contractors who built the facility says the 15 million dollar project isn’t just making the filtration process cleaner and more cost effective; it’s created an economic boom for the area and his family-run business. “Those dollars do cycle in this community many many times over and this is in addition to being a necessary project for Kentucky American, it’s an economic development project for Lexington”

Rogers said there are still some final touches that need to be done to the exterior of the building, but the new filtration system is now up and running.
