Lexington’s mayoral incumbent Jim Gray celebrated a decisive win over independent Danny Mayer and former police chief Anthany Beatty Tuesday.
But Gray cautioned supporters to take nothing for granted.
Buoyed by a 57 percent to 38 percent victory over his November challenger, Gray spoke to an enthusiastic crowd at Winchell’s Restaurant Tuesday. The incumbent attributed his strong numbers at the polls to his administration’s record on job creation, pension reform, and what Gray dubbed “aspirational thinking.”
He also congratulated his opponents and said he looks forwarded to a spirited campaign.
"It's reassuring to have the support and confidence that this vote represents, but we've got another four, five, six months ahead of us and a runoff, so we've got to stick at it, stay at it, and that's what we'll do," he said.
Gray wouldn’t speculate on how much he expects to spend on the campaign. The 2010 race saw both major candidates topping $1 million.
The mayor said he would not rule out lending his campaign money, as he did in 2010.
