FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – Republican U.S. Senate nominee Rand Paul delivered brief remarks Saturday to several hundred people at a Republican Party of Kentucky unity rally in Frankfort.
Paul, who defeated Secretary of State Trey Grayson in Tuesday's primary, warned the crowd a day of reckoning is coming if the United States government continues to run up debt.
"There is greatness in America, but let the greatness not dim by an over-reaching, over-arching government. Let's limit government. Let's keep government out of our lives and let's let allow America's greatness to thrive and be the great beacon in the world once again."
Among those speaking in support of Paul were Grayson and Sen. Mitch McConnell. Paul stepped outside briefly to shake hands and sign autographs but fielded no questions from the media.
Across the street, about ten people opposed to Paul's positions on immigration, civil rights and other issues held a quiet protest rally. Paul faces Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway this fall.
