Ky. Registered Voter Rolls Hit New High

AP

Kentucky’s registered voter rolls are swelling, with state  setting a new record heading into the 2016 General Election.

3.2 million – that’s the latest count according to Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes’ office. Both major parties have enjoyed growth since mid-May, but for the first time in more than 15 years Republicans managed to tip the scales in their favor in one of the Commonwealth’s six Congressional Districts.

The Fourth District, which includes all or part of 20 counties in Northern Kentucky, now hosts a slim 11-person majority for the GOP. Grimes says that’s in line with trends showing more Kentuckians officially identifying as Republican.

Women still outnumber men by six percent in the electorate.

Grimes’ office announced this week that in-person absentee voting is already open in many counties – with the remainder required to begin offering it at least 12 working days before the election. Lexington voters with questions should visit fayettecountyclerk.com.
