Kentucky Lawyer Behind Disability Fraud Given 15 More Years

FBI via AP, File

An eastern Kentucky disability attorney who masterminded the largest Social Security fraud in history has been sentenced to an additional 15 years in prison for fleeing the country in an effort to avoid prosecution. The sentence imposed Friday means Eric Conn is scheduled to spend 27 years in prison for defrauding the government of $500 million in disability benefits.

Conn spent six months on the run last year after pleading guilty to bribing doctors to falsify medical records for his clients and then paying judges to approve their lifetime disability benefits. Conn's sentencing went on without him and he was given a 12-year prison term.

He was flown back to Kentucky after being caught in Honduras in December.
