Free Career Testing Offered For Veterans, Unemployed
FRANKFORT, Ky. - Veterans, persons with disabilities, and anyone who has been unemployed for more than 26 weeks are eligible for a free round of career testing.
The free testing will allow qualified applicants to earn what’s called National Career Readiness Certification, or NCRS. The program, which is used by hundreds of businesses, gauges career readiness in three areas: applied math, locating information, and reading for information.
Terri Bradshaw with the Education and Workforce Cabinet says state funding for the free testing is limited.
"This is on a first come first, serve basis. The funding will only last through June 15th maximum. That means if we run out of funding prior to then those who registered later will not get the testing done for free," she says.
Local companies that subscribe to NCRC include Lectrodryer in Richmond and Smucker’s in Lexington. The testing is available at select One-Stop Career Centers across the state.
