Driver Who Caused Fatal Crash Was Well Over The Legal Limit

Abass Family Relatives

The coroner’s report confirms what investigators had already suspected. The man who drove the wrong way on Interstate 75 and slammed into an SUV full of a family of five was drunk.

41-year old Joey Bailey’s blood alcohol level was 0.306, nearly four times the legal limit. The Abbas family had ended their Florida vacation and was heading home to Michigan on January 6th, the accident happened when they reached Lexington. Police believe Bailey had been driving the wrong way for at least six miles before he hit the Abbas’ SUV. The family died of blunt force trauma and thermal injuries. Bailey was also killed.
