Lexington’s Community Action Council is bringing noted author and professor Dr. Cornel West to town for the LexEndPoverty event in September.
West is slated to deliver the keynote address as part of a broader effort to facilitate a conversation about poverty in Lexington. Community Action Council executive director Malcolm Ratchford says the philosophy professor and CNN, Real Time, and Colbert Report regular is an ideal choice.
"You have to bring people in who actually understand and have done research [and] who have spoken to numerous groups about poverty. We had Tavis Smiley one year, we had Melissa Harris-Perry last year, so we try to bring people who will speak on this particular awareness issue and we know he can do that based on his work," Ratchford says.
Proceeds from the September 27th LexEndPoverty event support the CAC’s mission of “building livable communities.”
Tickets are available through the Lyric Theatre box office and online at lexendpoverty.org.
