Debris Field Raises Price Of New Lexington School

FCPS

It’s going to cost $1.2 million more to build the newest elementary school in Fayette County. A brand new elementary school on Athens Boonesboro Road is under construction and set to open next school year. But contractors found a hitch during construction. Workers uncovered debris that goes down at least ten feet and spans the size of a football field. The debris is construction material and isn’t hazardous but still needs to be removed.

Yesterday at a planning meeting, the school board was asked to spend nearly $25 million on the new building. The group will vote later this month but it is expected to be approved since the price still falls below the initial estimate for the project.
