Victims Of '88 Carrollton Bus Crash Remembered

RADCLIFF, Ky. -- Quinton Higgins lost his best friend when the church bus he was riding in 25 years ago was turned into a fireball by a drunken driver on a Kentucky road, in what remains the nation's deadliest alcohol-related highway crash.

In the town that still grieves for the 27 who perished, people gathered Tuesday evening to remember the victims and honor the perseverance of the 40 who made it out of the burning bus alive.

Remains Reinterred at Eastern State Hospital Cemetery

LEXINGTON, Ky. - After two years of analysis by the Kentucky Archaeological Survey, the remains of 178 people have been placed back in the ground at the Eastern State Hospital cemetery.

Report Says More Woes For Appalachian Coal Mining

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A new report says hard times are expected to continue for the coal industry in Central Appalachia, which at one time was the hub of the nation's coal production.

Coal business in the mountains of eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia is facing declining reserves, higher production costs and competition from other coal basins and natural gas.

NTSB: Ship's Crew Ignored Warnings Before Wreck

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Federal investigators have concluded that the crew of a cargo ship ignored radioed and visual warnings about lights being out on a bridge in the moments leading up to a wreck.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators said on Tuesday that the crew of the Delta Mariner used only visual cues and went under the wrong span of the Eggner's Ferry Bridge near Aurora, Ky., on Jan. 26, 2012.

The wreck tore down a 322-foot span of the bridge over the Tennessee River.

Top Prep Prosepect Andrew Wiggins Commits To Kansas

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Top basketball prospect Andrew Wiggins has rejected an offer to join the number one recruiting class at Kentucky and will instead play his college basketball at Kansas.

The 6-foot-8 Toronto native signed a letter-of-intent Tuesday, choosing the Jayhawks over Kentucky, North Carolina and Florida State.

The ceremony ended the frenzied pursuit of the Huntington Prep star, who averaged 23.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game this season.
