Unemployment Rises In 60 Ky. Counties In March

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky is seeing rising unemployment at the county level with the coalfields continuing to be plagued by widespread joblessness.

The Office of Employment and Training reported Thursday that joblessness worsened in 60 counties between March 2012 and 2013, improved in 54 and remained the same in six.

Plea Deal Reached For International Internet Predator Caught In Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Federal prosecutors have reached a plea agreement with a resident of London, England who admitted to traveling to Eastern Kentucky with the specific intention of engaging in sex acts with a minor.  42 year old Solomon Blue Waters, pleaded guilty in federal court on Wednesday to using the internet to engage in sexual activity with an underage child.

Top Sire Storm Cat Euthanized At 30

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Storm Cat, the thoroughbred stallion who once commanded one of the highest breeding fees in North America, died Wednesday at Overbrook Farm in Lexington. He was 30.

Ric Waldman, manager of Storm Cat's stud career, said the horse was euthanized due to complications from old age. Waldman said Storm Cat appeared to have cancer but tests were not performed because they could have caused him pain.

Rollins Resigns Legislative Seat, Takes New Job

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- A Democratic state representative from Midway has resigned to accept the top job at the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority.

Carl Rollins, chairman of the House Education Committee, submitted his letter of resignation to Gov. Steve Beshear on Wednesday.

Legislative Research Commission Executive Director Bobby Sherman had notified lawmakers of Rollins resignation in an email. Sherman said the resignation would be effective at the close of business Wednesday.
