Beshear Reiterates He Won't Be Taking On McConnell

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Gov. Steve Beshear says he won't run against U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell despite encouragement from lots of people do so.

Beshear told reporters at a Capitol press conference Monday that Democratic leaders continue to urge him to run next year. But the second-term governor reiterated he won't seek election to any other office.

Beshear Appoints Union Leader As Labor Secretary

FRANKFORT, Ky.-- Gov. Steve Beshear has appointed a union leader to take over as his labor secretary effective May 15.

Beshear announced his decision Friday to put Kentucky State Building & Construction Trades Council director Larry Roberts in charge of the Labor Cabinet.

FRANKFORT, Ky. - The clock is ticking on the current legislative session, but efforts to push expanded gambling in the 2013 are still on-going, Gov. Steve Beshear said.

“I think it’s too early to reach a conclusion yet on whether we will have a bill on expanded gaming, you know we’ve got some issues to be resolved," he said.

Beshear Recovering From Minor Eye Surgery

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear will spend the next few days on a slower travel schedule than usual. Kentucky Public Radio’s Kenny Colston reports.

The governor is recovering from what his office calls minor eye surgery to repair a detached retina.

The governor’s office gave few details about the surgery or how the malady occurred. They say it did not result from an injury, but it developed this past weekend.

The surgery will require a limited travel schedule for Beshear, which shouldn’t be much of a problem post Election Day.
